How You Can Control Behavior In The Classroom
Poor study skills and inappropriate classroom behavior are some of the things you have to deal with when you are a teacher. Growing up also involves having some behavior issues for most children. It is not the same for everyone for some it’s more than for others. Special kids can be separated from the regular ones from their behavior. Let’s look at several ways you can manage classroom behavior.
Create behavior expectations and spell them out to the students. Concerning their behavior tell the students what is required of them at the start of every school year. Come up with rules, and that will govern the class on the first day of course. Go through the rules together with the students and make it a tradition in the classroom. If someone is doing something wrong come up with sighs that will signal them to stop doing what they are doing. Monitor the students to see if they are following the rules.
Make sure that their no inappropriate behavior in the class by checking their action and giving them feedback. If a student has forms of disruptive behavior curb it at early stage and always stay close to them and understand them well. If someone has inappropriate practice make sure you respond using gestures and words that are firm so show that they are not following the rules. When a student behaves appropriately to make sure that they get a reward.
The practices will be followed if you reinforce then using social, edible, negative, tangible and activity reinforcement. Instead if giving physical reward when someone has good behavior provide those tokens every time they are right. For a later day the tokens can be used as backup reinforcement. But if you are dealing with older students the best reinforce using contingency contracts. These types of deals are a decision that both you and the student agree on, saying what reward they will get if they have good behavior. Behavior can also be taught by shaping, shaping involves taking steps in showing good behavior. Shaping can be used to introduce functional practice or enforce to the one living.
Use models to show the kind of behavior that you need from the student. When one of the students does something right use them as an example explaining that’s what you want from the rest. In the presence of the other classmates teach a student who has behaved wrongly so that the rest can learn. If you do this it will work even for the students meaning you will have achieved more. The students should be part of coming up with a behavioral program, for example, making the goals, being responsible of themselves not to make mistakes, doing a personal evaluation of how they have behaved and the reward they should get. The behavior management program should also include the parents.
